TOUCH TYPING OR----- by Hugh O'Neill

I have a problem. Indeed, a number of problems. I am a writer – I have been one all my teenage and now long adult life, but from childhood there has been mild dyslexia with related spelling difficulties. I recall that my Mother hand copied my entries to youth literary competitions, but since then I have typed all submissions to Editors. I am not however a typist - I hit the keys fast but they are not always the right keys or in the right order. I therefore have to spend a lot more time on multi proof reading and error correction than I do on first-drafting the originals - and even then a few silly mistakes slip by. I could never get on with a Dictaphone (and typing services) as I need to see the words appearing in front of me as I write them. I have always liked getting ideas down on paper with a pen in my hand, but now my scrawl is so appalling that I have difficulty reading my own drafts.

A red light and a green man means you have to stop and let people cross the road.

It might sound like instructions for a five year old but when I was waiting at the New Road crossing earlier today there was a lorry that was impatiently edging forward waiting for a green light. instead came the signal for pedestrians to cross the road, but the lorry simply couldn’t wait and had to run the red light while me and another pedestrian were stood in the rain and snow, It was only another 30 seconds he needed to wait but he’d rather break the law and endanger peoples lives. In case he didn’t hear me shouting it earlier, Idiot!

Of course there is always the Christmas Factor when glamourised images of the stable at Bethlehem are interwoven with those of a jovial Santa Claus, and even the “Christ” in Christmas impinged into our consciousness. There will also be the one occasion in the year when many churches are full to the doors.

I don't understand

On my way to work this afternoon we were driving behind a police car. At the bottom of comber ton hill it went around the island and took the third exit and didn’t indicate once. He didn’t have any sirens or lights going and didn’t seem to be in any hurry.

Power Suppliers Are Wonderful After All

We must all have got it very wrong about those really nice people at the power suppliers. Why on earth have we all being suggesting they had no daddy? They are, afer all, trying their best to help us.
