PRINCE Charles and Camilla will be taking a ride along the Severn Valley Railway next month.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will arrive by royal train at the Kidderminster SVR station and then be hauled along to Bridgnorth by a steam engine.

Nick Ralls, SVR general manager, said: "This is a brilliant chance for the Prince to meet our volunteers and some of the local traders."

He explained: "To have such a prestigious royal visitor is a really unusual event and something we are looking forward to."

He added: "He might even get a chance to get up on the footplate and drive the engine."

Mr Ralls said the visit had originally been intended for 2007 but had to be rescheduled because of extensive flooding damage to the railway.

THe SVR was fully re-opened along its 16 mile length during the Easter Bank Holiday in March and Mr Ralls said the royal visit was another positive sign the railway was moving forward.

The visit will now take place on June 10.
