A NEW apartment block has been named after the founder of the Scouting movement to mark its centenary year.

Baden Powell House, in Brindley Mews, Stourport, is one of five apartments built by George Wimpey Midland, which is part of the Taylor Wimpey Group. Wyre Forest Scouts gathered at the site for the unveiling of the name.

Mark Woodward, group Scout leader for Cookley, said: "George Wimpey had an apartment block which they had not named. I approached them and asked if they would name it Baden Powell House and they agreed.

"We are so grateful to them in the naming of these apartments. It is a permanent tribute to our founder. Scouting has been instrumental in Wyre Forest since 1908.

"We have had a lot of fun celebrating the centenary year but we also wanted a permanent tribute and we have done brilliantly to achieve what we have achieved."

Wyre Forest Scouts took part in their own celebrations in August, with a sunrise ceremony which marked the centenary year.

Graham Bird, managing director of George Wimpey Midland, said: "We are delighted that the apartments have been named after the founder of the Scouting movement, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year."

"Through the naming of the apartments, at Brindley Mews, we're playing tribute to the huge contribution the Scouting movement has made to this community, ever since the local group first met in Kidderminster in December 1908."
