Lock those windows warning

PEOPLE are being warned to close and lock doors and windows if they go out or even leave the room.

Police often see an increase in "sneak-in" burglaries with the arrival of the hot weather.

Crime reduction officer, PC Stan Baker, of North Worcestershire police, said: "Now the weather is getting warmer it can be tempting to leave doors and windows open.

"However, residents are reminded of the importance of closing and locking all doors and ground floor windows whenever they go out or even just leave a room or go to bed.

"It only takes a minute for someone to sneak in and help themselves to a handbag or other valuables.

"Many people feel very vulnerable when they realise a burglar has been in their home while they were in another part of the house.

"It is also worth reminding residents that even though darkness falls much later at this time of year, it is just as important to ensure a light comes on at dusk and timer devices to switch on lamps only cost a few pounds.

"Outdoor security lights which come on automatically when they detect movement may act as a deterrent and residents are reminded to keep side gates bolted to prevent burglars gaining access to the rear of the property."
