An apprenticeship programme has smashed previous records by fundraising over £9,000 for its partner school in South Africa.

Winterfold Young Apprentice (YE) raised an exceptional £9,108.13, a 1,138 per cent increase, in its latest drive to funraise for Ncemaneni School.

Six weeks ago the programme challenged 80 young apprentices from years six, seven, and eight to see how much they could raise for the partner school from a £10 starting capital drawn from the 'Ncemaneni' account.

Previous years have seen the initial investment tripled or even quadrupled, but this year’s cohort has excelled in exceeding all previous records.

Their efforts extended beyond standard fundraising techniques, demonstrating initiative in the process.

Efforts ranged from badge making, food sales, eBay auctions of unwanted items, car washes, plant sales to sponsored push-ups.

Due to the backing of EdAid, the amount raised by will receive a matching contribution, effectively doubling the total donation to the partner school to £18,216.26.

A delegation from Winterfold is already in South Africa, which visited the Ncemaneni School on Tuesday (March 26th).
