A ROMANCE that began on the dancefloor has led to 50 years of marriage.

Betty and Wallace Burton, of Stourport, who have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, met at Frank Freeman’s ballroom dancing school, in Lower Mill Street, Kidderminster, in 1956.

Mr Burton would travel to Kidderminster from his home in the village of Chelmarsh, near Arley, five nights a week to attend the school.

He explained: “Frank’s lessons brought a lot of couples together. You soon got to know people when you were dancing with them. Frank ran some wonderful lessons and taught us plenty of new steps.”

Mr and Mrs Burton were both employed in the carpet industry until they retired.

Mr Burton worked at Carpets of Worth, in Stourport and Mrs Burton had a job at Carpet Trades in Kidderminster.

He said he felt the secret of a happy marriage was “a bit of give and take”.

Mr Burton added: “It’s important not to go to bed on an argument.

“Get things out in the open and it will all be fine. It’s done us well all these years.”
