KICKBOXING: A Stourport martial artist has become the first student from Drew Neal’s Lighthouse Kickboxing School to obtain his first dan black belt.

Stourport resident Spencer Symons, 37, saw five years of hard work pay-off when he achieved the level.

Over a three month period he had to complete a gruelling schedule of tests and examinations, which included fitness and sparring tests, as well as a formal written essay.

He also had to complete a six kilometre timed run and demonstrate all the techniques taught over the last five years.

Instructor Drew Neal said: “I am extremely proud of Simon’s achievements as I know how hard he has had to work and have watched him every step of the way.

“It is even more special for me as he is the first student to reach the Black belt grade at Drew Neal’s Lighthouse school.”

Anyone interested in joining the school can contact it on 01562 748008 .
