Lack of passion frustrates manager

MANAGER Neil Hunt is already looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend after watching his side take three points from the first two games in the BGB Southern League Midlands Division One.

Swifts recorded a rare opening day victory over Woodfoord on Saturday but suffered a 2-1 loss to Sutton Coldfield Town at Walshes Meadow on Tuesday night.

Hunt admitted that he was unhappy with both performances, particularly in the second half against Sutton, when they allowed a 1-0 lead to slip away.

He will now be aiming to add three new players before Saturday’s home league clash against Soham Town Rangers and Monday’s trip to Hunt's former club Malvern (3pm kick-off).

After the Sutton game, the manager said: “We defended solidly in the first half and I thought that we may be able to hold on.

“But not enough of the players wanted it as much as Sutton in the second half and that's why we lost.

“It opened my eyes a little and I may have to bring in three players before the Bank Holiday weekend.

“Too many of our players are in their comfort zone, they think it’s alright to lose at Stourport.

“I think the chairman and the manager can care more than the players sometimes. It's not the player’s reputation that will be affected, it’ll be mine if we lose and I’m not prepared to accept that.”

Hunt had to reshuffle his pack when they were trailing 1-0 at half-time to Woodford but the introduction of Scott Morris and Craig Webb rejuvenated Swifts.

Morris grabbed the leveller before Richard Burgess bagged the winner late on.

On Tuesday Morris fired Swifts into the lead but the home side had to defend stoutly to keep Sutton at bay, before their resistance was broken by the Birmingham side .

Burgess is set to miss Saturday’s game against Soham because of a wedding.
